Questions

How pawning actually works in Virginia.

Straight answers, including the ones about interest and what happens if you cannot repay. If something here is unclear, call and ask — we would rather explain it twice than have you sign something you do not understand.

How does a pawn loan actually work?
You bring in something of value, we appraise it in front of you and offer a cash loan against it. You keep the loan, we keep the item in a secure safe. Repay within your term and the item comes straight back to you. It is a loan against property, not a sale, and it is never reported to a credit bureau.
Do you run a credit check?
No. A pawn loan is secured by the item itself, so there is no credit application, no credit check and no effect on your credit score either way. All you need is a valid government-issued photo ID and the item.
What interest can a Virginia pawn shop legally charge?
Virginia law caps pawnbroker interest at 5% per month — 60% APR — on any loan of $100 or more, under Va. Code § 54.1-4008. Our rates start well below that ceiling and go as low as 35% APR on pawns over $20,000. Ask for the full cost in writing before you sign; any pawnbroker who will not put it in writing is one to walk away from.
What happens if I cannot repay on time?
Talk to us before the due date. Most customers extend by paying the interest and renewing the loan. If a loan is not repaid or renewed, the item is forfeited and goes up for sale — but there is no further debt, nothing goes to collections, and it never touches your credit.
How much will I get for my gold?
It depends on weight, karat and the live spot price, which moves daily. We test and weigh in front of you and show you the arithmetic. Bring everything — broken chains and single earrings are still gold, and the scrap value is the same whether the piece is wearable or not.
Are your designer handbags authentic?
Yes. Every designer bag is checked before it goes out, and the pieces we list online go through eBay's Authenticity Guarantee program, where a third-party authenticator inspects the bag in transit before it reaches the buyer. Our eBay feedback is 100% positive across more than 1,800 sales.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk in any time we are open — Monday to Friday 9 to 6, Saturday 10 to 6. We are closed Sundays. If you want a rough number before you drive over, call (804) 207-5334 and describe the item.
What do you not take?
We do not take anything we cannot verify you own, and we cannot take items that are reported stolen — every transaction is logged and reported to law enforcement as Virginia law requires. If you are unsure whether we will take something, call first and save yourself the trip.

What we can legally charge, and what we actually charge. Virginia caps pawnbroker interest at 5% per month (60% APR) on loans of $100 or more under Va. Code § 54.1-4008. Our rates start below that ceiling and run as low as 35% APR on pawns over $20,000, on 1, 2 or 3 month repayment, no maximum repayment period. Ask for the full cost in writing before you sign — from us or from anyone.
